I am assuming you are currently in H-1B status. Depending on your qualifications and what you do, there are a couple of different ways get your GC through employment. The most common of those is labor certification (LC). Again depending on where you are in the U.S., the LC process can take anywhere from aproximately 1 to 3 years. After you have an approved LC, you can file for adjustment with the BCIS, which is taking about another year to 2 years. One of the ways to shorten the LC process time is by doing reduction in recruitment. This is a process where the recruitment campaign is conducted upfront. Also, if the new PERM rules become effective soon, then the LC process will be much faster.
