criminal conviction/citizenship

i have been convicted of a disorderly persons offence about 4 years and 9 months ago. do i have to wait for the full five (5)years to apply for citizenship? i know that there was a 3 months before the date that one can apply.
2. when does the time start running? from the date of the offence or the date of conviction?

You must wait exactly and preferably much longer than 5 years. The 30 days will not apply to you with a previous (criminal?) conviction. You should carefully research on your conviction to make sure that it is not an offense for which you could trigger removal proceedings.

btw: the 5 year good moral character starts at the date then your last required form of punishment was completed such as probation/jail - should b definitly less than 180 days/fines/civil service etc.) .
