I applied for renewal of 10 yeaars green card before expiration date .I got a denial letter from INS due to my DUI conviction which was three years ago

Was it your first DUI? Was it a simple DUI or a felony? What was the sentence?

If it was your first and it wasn't aggravated, you should be OK.

I'm in somewhat of a similar situation, but only have one conviction.

your case is going to not so uncomplicated; the immigration and nationality act states clearly that two alcohol related "convictions" constitute a person an "habitual drunkard". You need to proof that you're not!! Get a good immigration lawyer and at the same time into a good rehabilation program ("new hope" is a good one!)
