H1b extension, while I-140 still in process ??

Hello ppl,
My visa is going to expire in about 2 months from now, while my lawyer has already applied for
I-140 and I-185 (concurrent) since 4 months now. I have received my EAD(I-765).
The question is do I have to apply for H1b extension ?, the most probable answer is YES, but what I would also like to know is what happens if my company does not apply for H1b extension and my
I-140 is rejected ?
Has anybody faced this situation ?

why take the risk if you can avoid it? Save yourself from this worry, apply for extension, it will not cost you much.

That's the reason why many people maintain H-1B status while I-485 is pending. In case of denial of I-485 your work authorization becomes invalid at once.

True. Except for you cannot do it yourself. It must be your employer. Just persuade them to do it.
