What's involved with being a sponsor?
What are the risks and responsibilities of being one?

      Hey Guest,

It depends on what kind of sponsorship, but usually sponsor is responsible for that person until they can stand on their own feet. The govt asks that you have some good junk of money in the bank before you sponsor someone. I guess it is Uncle Sam's way of staying on the safe side ;-)

      So, what kind is it?

An employer who sponsors an H-1B worker, who is then fired, is responsible for paying reasonable costs involved in the worker's trip back home.

I have a question on sponsorship as well. I as the citizen spouse am applying for my husband to get a visa, but do not qualify to sponsor him and so must find a co-sponsor. My brother in law is a permanent citizen, would that disqualify him in anyway from being a sponsor, assuming he is fine in the other areas?
