The Hellenic Genocide was the systematic torture, massacre and ethnic cleansing of several millions Hellenes (Greeks) perpetrated by the Turks in Asia Minor, Constantinople, Eastern Thrace and Pontos between 1894 and 1955.

Millions of children, men and women were tortured and massacred or expelled from their homes only for being Hellenes. In the same places and often at the same time, were also massacred millions of Armenians and Assyrians.

Great People the Turks

Your message and its content has no factual grounds and you can not even prove it... It never happened, it's not in history... It's just all about some rumors started not long ago, just to justify against how Ottoman Turks ruled the region for over 600 years...

After the conquest of last standing post of Byzantine (Istanbul that is) Sultan Mehmet II strictly ordered not to touch any of the byzantines and to comfort them...

Most of the other nations lived in peace under Ottoman State free in their internal affairs, they only paid taxes for the land...

...and in addition to that, todays Turkish Republic is way different that Ottoman State, yes, we are their brave descendants.

I have much Greek friends and I am so glad that I have friends like them... we have a common culture and we are no enemies to each other.. Governments maybe had some crisis in the past but those are governments' problems not the people's...

1453 Siege of Constantinople - Following the fall of the city, the Ottoman Turks massacre the Greek Orthodox population for three days. 10,000 massacred.

1480 Sack of Otranto - In 1480 and 1481 the Italian city and fort of Otranto were held by Ottoman troops. The number citizens had decreased from 20.000 to 8.000. Out of fear of another attack, many of these 8.000 left the city. Civilian casualties: 12,000.

1570 Cyprus massacre - The Turkish forces massacre thousands of Christians (mostly Greeks and Armenians) following the capture of the island. 30,000 massacred.

1797 Smyrna massacre - Massacre of the Greeks and other Europeans in the city of Smyrna / Ottoman Empire. 20,000 massacred.

1821 Constantinople massacre - As a retaliation for the Greek War of Independence, the Sultan's forces exterminate thousands of Greeks in the capital, including the Ecumenical Patriarch Gregory V. 30,000 massacred.

1821 Samothrace massacre - he Greek population of the island is wiped out by the Turks. 15,000 massacred.

1822 Chios massacre - Reprisals are committed after the Greek Christian population rebels against the Ottoman Empire. 42,000 massacred. An additional 50,000 are enslaved in "The most horrible massacre recorded in modern history".

1876 Batak massacre - As part of the reprisals following the April Uprising, bashi-bazouks (Ottoman army irregulars) massacre Bulgarian men, women and children barricaded in Batak's church. More than 7,000 others are massacred throughout Bulgaria.

1895-1897 Hamidian massacres - On the orders of Abdul Hamid II, Ottoman forces massacre Armenians living in Anatolia. 80,000 to 300,000 massacred.

1897 Crete massacre - Turkish forces massacre Greeks living on Crete after a rebellion. 55,000 massacred.
In 1923, a population exchange between Greece and Turkey, which involved some two million people, most forcibly made refugees, resulted in a complete elimination of the Greek ethnic presence in Anatolia, practically ending some 3,000 years old presence of ethnic Greek people in Asia Minor. It is impossible to know exactly how many Greek inhabitants of Pontus, Smyrna and rest of Asia Minor died from 1916 to 1923, and how many ethnic Greeks of Anatolia were deported to Greece or fled to the Soviet Union. Edward Hale Bierstadt states that " According to official testimony, the Turks since 1914 have slaughtered in cold blood 1,500,000 Armenians, and 500,000 Greeks, men women and children, without the slightest provocation". The Assyrian massacres resembled the Armenian slaughters. Estimated two-thirds of Assyro-Chaldeans, about 275,000, died in organized massacres, starvation, disease, and systematic kidnapping and rape between 1914–1918.

The Middle East and North Africa are in a state of transformation. The Church has existed in this part of the world since the time of Christ. Around 20 million Arab Christians live in this region. But the Church in many Middle Eastern countries is shrinking. In 1900 Christians represented around 20% of the population of the Middle East. That number has fallen to less than 5% today. These numbers are even more striking in the Holy Land. Historically, the percentage of Christians in the West Bank and Gaza has declined from nearly 20% to 1.5% today (Sennott, The Body and the Blood 2001). Those numbers show that there is a very real possibility that Christianity could vanish from the land of Christ's birth! The indigenous church in North Africa, home of St. Augustine, is already nearly extinct.

Bombed churches, a beheaded clergyman, and the massacre of 13 Christian women and girls, because they didn't wear the traditional Islamic veils. In the last month, these are just the most extreme acts of violence carried out against Christians across Iraq. The UN High Commission for Refugees reports that Christians comprise 44% of Iraqi refugees, although only 4% of the overall population is Christian. They were tolerated under the secular regime of Saddam Hussein, who even made one of them, Tariq Aziz, his deputy. But as the war has radicalised Islamic sensibilities, Christians have seen their total numbers slump from 1.2 million before the US-led invasion of March 2003 to about 600,000 today. An exodus to the neighbouring countries of Syria, Jordan and Turkey has left behind closed parishes, seminaries and convents. As a small minority without a militia of their own, Iraqi Christians have been persecuted by both Shi'a and Sunni Muslim militias, and also by criminal gangs.

Young British Muslims are more likely than their elders to support sharia law and admire al-Qaida. Forty percent of Muslims between aged 16 to 24 said they would prefer to live under sharia law in the UK, compared to only 17 percent of those over 55. Thirty-six percent of the younger group said a Muslim who converted to another religion should be "punished by death". There was also strong support for wearing the veil in public, 74 percent of 16-to-24-year-olds, and Islamic schools, 37 percent. Pollsters questioned 1,003 Muslims, weighted to represent the population across the UK, using Internet and telephone questionnaires. The survey concluded that British authorities and some Muslim groups have exaggerated the problem of Islamophobia and fueled a sense of victimization among some Muslims.

Foreign policy was shown to be a key issue for British Muslims, with 58 percent of respondents saying many of the world's problems were "a result of arrogant Western attitudes." Their knowledge of foreign affairs was sketchy, with only one in five knowing that Mahmoud Abbas was head of the Palestinian Authority.

In a poll conducted for the Channel 4 documentary, only half the British Muslims questioned said they thought of Britain as "my country", whereas nearly a quarter said they thought of it as "their country" - meaning someone else's. The younger respondents were, the greater the alienation. Shockingly, one in three British Muslims aged between 18 and 24 said they would rather live under Sharia law than under British law. In a Pew poll of Muslims worldwide, a gob-smacking 81% of British Muslims said they thought of themselves as a Muslim first and a citizen of their country only second. In the Channel 4 poll, nearly one third of young British Muslims agreed with the suggestion that "the July bombings were justified because of British support for the war on terror". That's truly shocking.

Some European cities, such as Marseille in France and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, now have Muslim populations of 25 percent. In others, like Paris, London and Copenhagen, Denmark, the figure is in excess of 10 percent. Approximately 30% of all the children in the public schools of Copenhagen have a "foreign background", most of them Muslim. 60% of young immigrants dropped out of high school. Especially recent immigrants like Somalis, who came to Denmark in the 1990s, have high unemployment rates, with only 13% employed. In the UK, the unemployment rate among Somali men is estimated to be around 87%. Non-western immigrants in Norway (the largest immigrant groups by country of origin are Pakistanis, Iraqis, Vietnamese and Somalis) are shown to rely heavily on welfare transfers for several years after immigration. Ekhaugen's study shows that 50% of the non-western immigrants who settled in Norway in the period from 1966 to 1975 were welfare dependent 25 years later.

Within 10 years, Muslims will have an absolute majority in both Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Europe's Muslim population has tripled over the last 30 years, to about 23 million, and experts predict it will double again by 2020. Last year, seven percent of babies born in European Union countries were Muslims. Muslim birth rate in Europe is three times higher than the non-Muslim one.

Islam is the largest non-Christian religion in Canada. According to 2001 census, there were 579,640 Muslims in Canada. In 2006, Muslim population is estimated to be 783,700. In the 1981 census Muslim population was still below 100,000. Canada's Immigration Minister is pushing for major changes to the country's immigration system, according to government sources. If the changes are accepted, Canada will be bringing in more than 300,000 immigrants a year. All political parties in Canada are now cautious about criticising of the high level of immigration, because, as noted by the Globe and Mail, "in the early 1990s, the old Reform Party was branded ˜racist' for suggesting that immigration levels be lowered from 250,000 to 150,000. In March 2005, Statistics Canada projected that the visible minority proportion will comprise a majority in both Toronto and Vancouver by 2012.

Northern Iraq remained predominantly Christian until the destructions of Tamerlane at the end of the 14th century. The Church of the East has its origin in what is now South East Turkey. By the end of the 13th century there were twelve Nestorian dioceses in a strip from Peking to Samarkand. At the height of their powers they were estimated to have had nearly 80 million members (Karlsson 1991.23). This age of greatness came to an abrupt end, however. When the a 14th-century Muslim warlord of Turco-Mongol descent Tamerlane (Timul Lenk) conquered Persia, Mesopotamia and Syria, the civilian population was decimated.

He thought of himself as a ghazi, Warrior for the faith. Timur Lenk had 70,000 Assyrian Christians beheaded in Tikrit, and 90,000 more in Baghdad and ordered that every soldier should return with at least two severed human heads to show him (many warriors were so scared they killed prisoners captured earlier in the campaign just to ensure they had heads to present to Timur). After capturing certain cities he slaughtered thousands of the inhabitans (perhaps 80,000 at Delhi) and built pyramids of their skulls. To punish a revolt in Isfahan, he ordered a general massacre of the population, and the heads of 70, 000 people were built up into minarets. He represents a synthesis, probably unprecedented in history, of Mongol barbarity and Muslim fanaticism. Of the Nestorian Christians only scattered remnants survived.
