  • Affadavit of support for INS interview?

    Hi,

When my husband filed his affadavit of support for me, he was the only wage earner in our family. Now I'm working too and we will have our interview soon. Obviously our financial situation is much better now since I'm working. Should we fill out and bring a new affadavit of support to the interview with the new information or is INS satisfied with only letters from both our employers + copies of pay checks?

Would be thankful for replies. Anna

      Hi,

I forgot to say that my husband is an American Citizen and I'm the immigrant.

Anna, your income will have no bearing whatsoever because you are the beneficiary. Your husband, the sponsor, is the only one who's earning power will be taken into consideration. If you're concern that it's below standard, try looking for a co-sponsor such as one of your husband's relatives.

Anna, I actually think Anon is wrong on this one. If I'm not completely mistaken the beneficiary's income too can be counted in addition to the sponsor's. There is a space on the Affadavit of Support for the beneficiary's financial means. As long as you bring a letter from your employer with you to the interview, you should be fine. Please correct me anyone if I'm wrong.

          Good luck!
