    it depends where the child was born and which one of the child's parent is a U.S. citizen or illegal:

    If the child was born here in the U.S. the child is an U.S. citizen by birth (no matter of parents status, unless both parents are foreign diplomats)

    If the child was born outside the U.S. and you are:
    - the U.S. citizen mother: child is automatically an U.S. citizen
    - the U.S. citizen father: child will be U.S. citizen as soon as the child is registered with the U.S. embassy (applied for social security, passport) etc.
