  • Filing tax return with new SSN

    Hi,

We got our green card last year. After that, I applied for Social Security No. for my wife and got it. So, this year I will file tax returns with her new SSN. I used to use Tax ID for her till last year. Is there anything I have to do to inform about the change to IRS or is it OK to just replace Tax ID with SSN?

    Appreciate your help...

      To Sudhakar:
You can file Joint Tax Return with her SSN. Thereafter your wife should write a letter to IRS informing them that earlier she had filed her Tax return using ID # and now she has got her SSN, so she is requesting them to transfer her Credits to her SSN.
      Good luck
