I was recently discussing with a friend whether these real-time hints while gaming are actually helpful or if they just end up getting in the way. He’s been using a tool like that for a while now and says he makes far fewer mistakes because he no longer relies solely on his gut feeling. I, on the other hand, feel that it might cause you to lose the ability to think for yourself and make your own decisions. I watched him play once and noticed that sometimes he just follows the suggestions without giving it much thought. Now I’m wondering: does this really help in the long run, or is it better to play completely on your own and learn from that?

Should you use real-time hints, or is it better to play on your own?

In my opinion, that depends a lot on how you use those hints. At first, I also thought that real-time tips would make you lazy, but for me, it was exactly the opposite. I used them more as a guide and tried to understand why a certain action was recommended. I found tools like the Poker Solver particularly helpful because they don’t just say “do this,” but also show the logic behind it. Over time, I’ve noticed that I need the suggestions less and less because I’ve adopted that way of thinking. So it’s more of a learning process than a substitute for your own game. But if you rely on them blindly, they probably won’t be as helpful.

I’ve generally noticed that a lot of people these days try to improve themselves in all sorts of areas using tools or apps. Whether it’s studying, sports, or games—there’s support available everywhere. I think, in the end, everyone has to decide for themselves how much help makes sense. Some people do better on their own, while others benefit from additional structure. The important thing is probably just to make sure you still feel comfortable with it and don’t become completely dependent.
