My dad keeps saying he can tell where someone is calling from just by the number, but I’m not convinced it’s that accurate. We ended up debating it for an hour. Can you explain how phone number geolocation actually works in simple terms?

Your dad's half right - numbers do carry a registered origin, but that's basically a frozen snapshot from whenever the number was first issued. My neighbor has a number from a city he left eight years ago, still "shows" as being there. Means nothing about where he actually is. Real geolocation needs live data - cell towers, GPS, network signals. That's a completely different system. GEOfinder mobile number location tracker actually taps into that layer, not just the static registration record. Show your dad the difference between a number lookup result vs a real signal-based check - that debate will end pretty fast lol.
