I-824 (Last Stage in GC) But Need Advise Please

Dear All,
Could somebody kindly advise me on the following:
I am presently on I824 status-(Application for action on an approved application or
petition). Meaning, I am waiting for the paper work to be processed in order to get my Green Card. During this wait is it possible for me to return to my home country, (my employers have approved it already), to attend to a family medical emergency? Also given that I have opted to do my interview in my home country (Counseler Process) can I remain back in my home country till my interview date comes?

Further, would anybody know if and when I824 processing will start again in the Vermont Processing center. Is that place working ok?
