Yippee, no camping trip to Federal Plaza for my EAD. Received NOA today with instructions to call National Customer Service Center to schedule appointment. Due to a new BCIS policy I can go to my local ASC office instead of going into NYC (which we had been planning on doing one night next week). My appointment is for September 18th. I filed AOS inc I-765 in May. So that's some good news for a change.

i went to NYC office last night at 11"30pm. There were 33 people in front of me. There is a list for you to sign your name in. I slept on the sidewalk until 6 am. At that time, the line is about 200 people. Went in there, hand in paper and waited. I got called at 11"30. Got pick taken and got my EAD card 5' later.
Wow. it took 12 hours to get EAD...not bad at all. And in the EAD card, it has your Alien number....

I'd go and give it a try! That's what? 7 months from the time you applied until your appointment! That's ridiculous! Go ASAP and if they say anything tell them you didn't get the letter yet. They say after 90 days you are allowed to go and get your EAD, so try and get it. My husband & I are still planning on taking that camping trip next month to Federal Plaza when my 90 days are up, I'm not waiting any longer than I have to!

    hey all,
I got my EAD appointment letter today. I am scheduled for Oct 15th. I want to get it earlier so i can start working in Sept ( i got an offer). Can i go there and wait in line to get the temp EAD without letting them know that i got the appointment for EAD.

You have to go and pick it up yourself, they don't mail them to you. BCIS will send you a letter with an appointment date to go and pick it up at your nearest office. It used to be that NYC would issue EAD within 90 days of cashing the check/money order. The wait is now 120 days+, but after 90 days you can go down to NYC office and get it yourself without an appointment as long as you have your receipt or evidence of filing. The problem is NYC only issue 50 EAD's a day to people without an appointment, hence you have to get there **** early to stand a chance of getting one that day.

Andy, I won't be going until the end of August, but if you decide to go and not wait, may be you could let us know how it goes

my EAD application based on I 485 was received on April 3rd....it's 3 months and a half. I will wait till Agust 3rd to make it 4 months cause people saying now it takes 4 months in NYC. If i have not heard things by then, i will go there camping myself. If you go there by then, tell me how it goes

Thanks Umesh. But what I meant is, as it is extremely unlikely that I will get an EAD appointment letter in 90 days then I have to go down there myself and ask for an EAD with my receipt.

When they send you a appointment letter to pick up EAD, you do not have to stand in line towards Broadway. In their letter they always mention from which enterance you can enter Federal Plaza.
    Good luck.

Having read this and other boards, basically the answer to getting EAD after 90 days in NYC is to arrive at midnight with receipt and docs etc in hand. To bring food, water, a sleeping bag and a copy of War and Peace or other lengthy book and most importantly, be sure that you are one of the first 50 people in line applying for EAD. Is that how it goes?

It's years since my husband and I had a night out in NYC, we're looking forward to it!
