Howcome illegals and overstay can go to College?

I read somewhere in this site that illegals and overstays are able to go to College.

I dont see how they do it, unless they lie on their application?

A friend of mine who is married to a USC but no GC yet was asked to show a proof of his Immigration status when he enrolled in College.
He showed his EAD and was approved.

I thought that since 9/11, Colleges had to send to the INS the information about every international student.

Isnt an illegal or overstay enrolled in College an international student?

If illegals can go to College, then cooperation between INS and Colleges isnt good.
Also, what has been done since 9/11 to prevent terrorist to enroll in a school too?

Any one who pays tuition fee are elligible to get education. What is problem here?

I didnt say that I have a problem with that, I am just wondering why my friend's school asked him a proof of his immigration status then...his EAD and they said that they have to send a copy of his College application to INS.

If they do that for everyone, included illegals, then the INS is gonna know were to catch those illegals, isnt that scary?

Thats why I was wondering if illegals were still telling the school that they are illegal or if they just the school that they are USC?

I know its illegal for them to work, but are they legally allowed to go to College?

I think its a good thing if they can go legally, since they cannot work, at least they do something good for themselves and stay out of trouble.

Better going to College than be in a gang.

IF alien declares that he ihas no legal status then he pays fees as international student, otherwise like us.
another reason is to get F1 if qualify.

But the College are not allowed to refuse an alien to study, just because he is here illegally right ?

Period, is that a law or just what you would like to see????

In diffrent states they have different fee. However, in state like NY u pay the state resident fee, if u qualify the state residency requirement, irrespective of the immigration status. It is scary to go to college if one is illegal, but u know there are thousands student who are illegal.
