I am an canadien ,already 5 months in US, I would like to apply for student visa f1,can I do it inside USA or I must go back to Canada to do it?

INS has been very restrictive when it comes to switching from visitor visa (I assume that's the status you are currently on) to F1 after the events on Sept.11. Though this message should not be construed as legal, unless you have the "Prospective Student" stamp on your visitor visa, I think it will be a little difficult to get it. I suggest you to speak with the DSO at the institution you are planning to attend and have a more accurate advice.
