We had our adjustment of status interview today.
We had a very polite woman INS officer. The interview lasted 15 mins. Although I brought lots of supporting documents, she only asked to see bank records, lease and photos. She asked my wife a few questions about previous trips to USA.
Since we are legal and not hiding anything we just answered the questions. She told us that things are still on hold but they are putting petitions in 2 categories. To be approved and to be investigated. She said ours would go in the approved pile to be processed beginning Feb.
She also said they had to still do more checks. I assume they are criminal/ background checks. Since we have no records I assume we will be alright.
We mentioned that my wife still did not receive her SSN yet even though she received EAD in Sept.
It seems buearecracy is still big part of the process. INS said to bug SS. In any case that was our experience. Our lawyer was with us and a translator; even though I am bilingual.
It was like being with any other government official, slightly nerve-racking and buearecratic.
