The truth is, Patrick (SOM) that capitalism has betrayed us. The bank regulators betrayed us, the investors, bankers, the whole financial system has betrayed us with cavalier immoral practices.
That doesn't mean that the answer is socialism. It is not, but a balance of both, similar to the balances and checks in government branches, is only when we are able to sustain the society functioning properly.
And this is what Obama is attempting to do.
    Checks and Balances.

Davdah, I agree with you that socialism only works within a capitalist framework. This is why it is so exciting, the Obama administration and the progressive agenda. It's never happened before in the history of human kind, it's unprecedented. Whenever we come out of this crisis (caused by the failure of pure unencumbered capitalism, unchecked and unregulated market), is going to be pure joy. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Q1. And WHO hires and is in charge of the bank regulators??? ONE GUESS !!!

Q2. And what did these regualators FORCE through lawsuits the bankers and investors to do AGAINST THEIR WILL??? ONE GUESS !!!!

    A1. The Government
    A2. Give out bad loans

Is this guy dense or what?

The market was regulated. The problem was the regulations weren't enforced. Just like we have immigration laws. Are they followed? Nope. Now we have an equally gigantic mess.

It isn't isolated to one party either. As a matter of fact it is party neutral. In the real estate bust everyone from the agent, inspector, loan officer, right up to the Fannie mae rep who sold off the loan bundles. They had to know. Each and everyone one of them that the values were over stated. Credit defects under-reported or flat out ignored.

Capitalism with some regulation works. The regs just needed to have some teeth. Instead of uncle dracula we had gummy bears for regulators. To tax it more will not control it. That will kill it. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

The regulations weren't enforced ????? LOL !!! You must be playing a joke or ignorant of the facts. You should google this:

"Banking Regulation Lawsuit Racial Discrimination" 16,700 Hits

"Community Reinvestment Act Racial lawsuits" 102,000 Hits

There were tens of thosands of lawsuits that enforced the regulations. The Federal Government, HUD, Obama, Bush and ACORN sued sued sued and threatened bank officials with JAIL under the CRA unless they gave out bad loans !

Don't tell me these laws were not enforced; they were enforced very well; to the tune of several trillion dollars. Do you still think Government regulation of industry is such a great idea?

Everyone is greedy. That is why capitalism works and governments fail. A capitalist would NEVER have taken the gamble that the government did; it would never have been stupid to give loans to people who never pay bills anyway. This was proven over oh about the past 1000 years when banks did not give out money to people who wouldn't pay. A monkey can understand this. Are you dumber than a monkey?

The regulations were NOT "relaxed". Loan standards were "relaxed" because of regulations and threats of lawsuits and jail under CRA unless the standards were relaxed. I don't consider lawsuits and jail sentences to be "relaxed" regulations.

When I was reading Glenn Greenwald's article at the Salon I'll quote in a moment, I was thinking it perfectly describes you and the likes of you:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Bill Clinton's election in 1992 gave rise to the American "militia movement": hordes of overwhelmingly white, middle-aged men from suburban and rural areas who convinced themselves they were defending the American way of life from the "liberals" and "leftists" running the country by dressing up in military costumes on weekends, wobbling around together with guns, and play-acting the role of patriot-warriors. Those theater groups -- the cultural precursor to George Bush's prancing 2003 performance dressed in a fighter pilot outfit on Mission Accomplished Day -- spawned the decade of the so-called "Angry White Male," the movement behind the 1994 takeover of the U.S. Congress by Newt Gingrich and his band of federal-government-cursing, pseudo-revolutionary, play-acting tough guys.
What was most remarkable about this allegedly "anti-government" movement was that -- with some isolated and principled exceptions -- it completely vanished upon the election of Republican George Bush, and it stayed invisible even as Bush presided over the most extreme and invasive expansion of federal government power in memory. Even as Bush seized and used all of the powers which that movement claimed in the 1990s to find so tyrannical and unconstitutional -- limitless, unchecked surveillance activities, detention powers with no oversight, expanding federal police powers, secret prison camps, even massively exploding and debt-financed domestic spending -- they meekly submitted to all of it, even enthusiastically cheered it all on.
They're the same people who embraced and justified full-scale, impenetrable federal government secrecy and comprehensive domestic spying databases conducted in the dark and against the law when perpetrated by a Republican President -- but have spent the last week flamboyantly pretending to be scandalized and outraged by the snooping which Bill Moyers did 45 years ago (literally) as part of a Democratic administration. They're the people who relentlessly opposed and impugned Clinton's military deployments and then turned around and insisted that only those who are anti-American would question or oppose Bush's decision to start wars.

You know that your insidious, disruptive, distorting, angry, chest thumping screaming isn't working any longer. You've lost the ability to intimidate people with your slimy name-calling and to control the debate. This I got from the inside. You either lent the money or risked a red line based law suit. In the few years leading up today the resistance to such threats were eased due to soaring property values. The general thought was. "Well, even if they default we'll still get our money back." </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I never threatened anyone with a law suit. When I shopped around for my house in 2003, I spoke to many banks. I was a little worried about my credit and landing a decent rate, as it had taken a hit during and after my divorce. I will never forget what one of the representatives said, namely, "you don't know how much they (the bank) want to give you that loan"!

I'm well aware of these regulations being aggressively enforced. Obama himself filed a class action lawsuit against Citi in 2003 for not giving out enough sub-prime loans. These loan at all costs regs were the only ones adhered to.

The regs ignored which would have stopped these provisions were labeled as bigoted and smeared as targeting minority borrowers. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Right. Obama wasn't even a senator in 2003.

You want to blame minorities, labor unions, etc. Davdah, but do you know who is the most to blame for this financial crisis?
                  YOU.
Yes, you Davdah. And you Hudson, and you Patrick (SOM), and you ProudUSC, and you Houston- and everyone else who clapped and cheered at Bush when he was elected, because you all voted for him, and cheered him on, and deep down you still believe he did a pretty good job, and is not to be blamed for all this.
But a president CAN and DOES shape the government policy. Look at Obama how fast things turned around and how fast he managed to reverse all the damaging changes of the most destructive administration in the US history.
Bush is only one of those thugs in his administration, one of the primary enablers of the ruinous policies. But his signature is on the war resolution. His signature is on the perilous energy policy, and his rubber stamp approval on deregulation of all industries, lawbreaking (FISA) etc etc etc. It is HIS signature on all of these- so yes he is to blame for all this, along with the people like you who put him in the power.
Now, why did you vote for him and cheered him on? Let me enlighten you all. It happened because of your signature American ignorance, stupidity and thuggishness, lack of education and common sense. Because you're all chest thumping neanderthals.
So, in that vain- you DO deserve what is coming. I've said this before, remember?
I really do hope that you lose your jobs, all your money, and learn real tough life, and hopefully gain some brain cells in the process. I hope you gather the fruit of your stupidity and go through hunger and pain, and I hope this will teach you a lesson.
You're all the reason for the current crisis. And millions of other barbarians and the hordes of neanderthals chanting: USA, USA, USA; or FREEDOM, FREEDOM, FREEDOM. Chest thumping monkeys.

                  You're THE REASON. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Please list what Obama has done to reverse the damage? I have seen no evidence of any reversal yet. However, I also know it's too soon to expect a miracle. I'm just wondering what I'm missing?

Wow, you really are an idiot.

Guatanamo Bay - Not Closed; no where to send most of the prisoners, oh and the prisoners that were released were all seen killing Americans in the battlefield a week later.

Banning Torture - We have never tortured anyone. Waterboarding is not torture; not even close.

Reversal on energy policy - Hasn't happenned yet either but when it does, it will cost us millions of more jobs to China and India who are exempt from the Kyoto treaty.

Children's Health Act - Hasn't even passed yet and its just more socialization and more unaffordable health care, just what we need. I suppose paying for abortions in other countries is considered part of the Children's Health Act.

Fair Pay Act - Hasn't even passed yet and the Soviet Union tried socialism and it didnt work there either.

American Reinvestment Act - Is this Community Reinvestment Act Part 2? Just what we need. Bush spent a trillion and that didn't work so Obama figures that failure was worth repeating. Change???

Stem Cell research; How many billions have been spent on this over the past 25 years and exactly what has come of it? Zip. But hey, bad ideas are hard to kill.

So nAnd lets not forget the trillions in debt that Obama has added in his first 2 months. Lets not forget that 500 million jobs were lost during the first month (according to Pelosi).Lets not forget that he "apologized" to Iran. Lets not forget that he gave a billion dollars to fund Palestinian terrorists.

You are an imbecile. You don't even know that many of these haven't even passed yet. And they have all been tried and they all failed under Bush and Obama is repeating the same policy.

I hope you and your entire family dies.
