If you have a EWI status on your I-485 application, you are in AOS with a valid EAD. Then and ONLY then you do not have to register.

Could you please verify that if someone entered without inspection do not have to register provided if they are now in AOS status.

No it is not stupid. Regitration is for those who came legally. After this registration they are going to start with new procedure called "Special deportation" which will deal with those came in with out inspection. I hope you understand Why?
