Delay in Social Security Number issue

Hi,

I came to USA on 4th of April in L1B. As I planned to be here for couple of years I applied for my Social Security number on 10th May. But to my surprise I havent got my Security number yet. Its already 5 months and I still dont have it. When I tried to call my local office they would say delay in INS. And you know how INS works. I could not find out a way to get out of this loop. INS says its confidential . But I am just wondering if I dont have the right to know why its being delayed. As far as I know it should not take more than 2 weeks. Can anyone help ?

You should visit the SSA personally and speak to the case officer who handled your initial application.
