People die everyday. America will kill thousands of innocent people in Iraq, they have killed thoudands of people in Afghanistan, Their biggest ally, Israel kill thoudands of innocent Arabs. Last time I checked, all human beings were created by God and for him they are all equal, What's so special about these 7. Nothing. They died while performing their duties. Death is always a tragedy. Atleast these were the fortunate ones, they will be remembered in history and the whole country is mourning. How about shedding few tears for all the unfortunate ones who know one remembers, we call it "Collateral damage" Shame on all of you who think that the death of these 7 is somehow a bigger tragedy.

I think those of us with souls and hearts not only mourn the loss of these astronauts, but the loss of their individual talents, potential and future contributions, too. I feel so sorry for their families and coworkers and hope their death was immediate. We can take solace in that they died doing what they loved most. What I hate is the thought that these families have seen the televised footage of the explosion and fireball, like the one astronaut's father who was watching the shuttle when it broke up. This is all very sad and should remind us all of the fragility of our own lives, and how fortunate we are to be alive, whatever our circumstance.

I think those of us with souls and hearts not only mourn the loss of those thousands of innocent people in Iraq, Afganistan, and Palestinians. I feel so sorry for their families and co-workers and hope they were not tortured but had an immediate death. We can take solace in that they died doing what they loved most. What I hate is the thought that their families have seen the televised killings of their own sons. This is all very sad and should remind us all of the fragility of our own lives, and how fortunate we are to be alive, whatever our circumstance.

How right your are. I forget who said this, but do you remember the quote, "The death of any man diminishes me"? This is true, regardless of where a person comes from, what their religious belief, their color or anything. We all do need to say another prayer for those everywhere who suffer, die at the hands of cutthroats and ultimately self-serving politicians, and their families. I hope you say another one, too.

To Alc:
You have a great heart and have pain for everybody. We always mourn those people who meet unnatural death irrespect of their country of origin, religion or color. Everybody is equal in the eyes of God. He loves everybody and bestows his blessing equally.
God bless you and everybody on this Board.

Kalpana Chawla -- the immigrant from India who perished as a member of Space Shuttle Columbia's crew when that craft was lost during re-entry on Saturday morning.
Immigrants from India, China, and many other countries found in large numbers throughout the scientific and technical community in the US.
Immigration not a zero-sum game -- while enriching their lives, immigrant scientists and technicians enrich our country economically.
Ilan Ramon, an Israeli, also perished when the Columbia was lost. In Israel today, many business professionals who happen to be born in Syria, Iran, Iraq or other countries on our "immigration hit list" who cannot get visas quickly and are subject to the harrassment of registration while here.
Immigration an important part of the American experience today. Anti-immigrationists may bemoan this, and pro-immigrationists may hail this, but all must acknowledge this fact.
