  • Extending letter of extension (I-751)

My wife's 1 year extension letter is expiring on June 30th, but her I-751 application is still waiting in the queue to be processed.
She abruptly had to go to Turkey to attend her mother recovering from a recent stroke and she needs to be there in the next couple of weeks, likely beyond June 30th.

What should we do so that she does not lose her resident status and also not denied entry to USA after June 30th?
Is there a way we can address this problem through US consular in Turkey?

Help on this issue would greatly be appreciated.

She should have gotten an I-551 stamp before she left, but it is too late for that now. Her status is not at risk -- she remains a conditional permanent resident for as long as Removal of Conditions is pending -- the problem is that she doesn't have proof of it so she will have trouble boarding a flight to the US.

She can try to go to a US consulate and apply for a transportation letter (boarding foil) that will allow the airline to board her with no liability.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

      Dear Sir/Madam:
I very much appreciate your reply.
However, is there a possibility that she may be denied entry to USA because the extension is expired?

      Regards,

No, if she makes it to the US, she won't be denied entry.
