when i put my petition in for my wife i was working but got unemployed after that.when my visa is approved will i have to show proof of employment.im thinking about starting a business soon can i use this as employment?how long do i need to have my business.

There is no limit of time for a business to show in these cases. You can be a self-employed person, it will not effect that petition. Everything will be okay. They check how much you are making and how much you made during last three years.
