I-751 is pending for almost a year

I have been married to an american citizen since august 2008. In march 2010 I have gotten my first conditional green card with no problems. In december 5th 2011 I've applied for I - 751 and got my biometrics taken 10 days later. We have a lot of supporting evidence (joint leases, tax returns, car and home insurances, joint bank accounts) and stuff like that. The only thing: we don't have children. Also, I have a very clean record (no traffic violations or anything like that). So, I waited for several months and checked the status of application online, but it just shows that it is in initial review. After 9 months, I've called to customer care and asked to provide me extra info on my case. I was transferred and told that my case is in New York State (we used to live in New York, however now we live in New Hampshire and my documents are in Vermont center) and the agent sent the request to New York. 10 days later i got a letter from New York Office and they said that my case is under investigation and if I don't hear anything from them within 6 months, I need to give them a call. However, I don't understand why it is under such a long investigation because we have a faithful marriage and I haven't broke any law. I have asked a local senator to help, so senator's assistant call immigration and they said that I'm under investigation under some agency and she asked me if I've done anything wrong... So, I've hired an immigration lawyer who advised me not to worry yet and apply for N-400 in january 2013. However, I'm not sure if it is going to help. If anybody knows what is going on or been in similar situation? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

The lawyer you contact is right. This is completely normal and happens for at least half I-751s. This is why they extend the permanent residence with a 1 year receipt notice. There is nothing you can do until after that 1 year passes and it is outside processing times.

It seems it is a normal course. In fact, I have heard that as long as it is pending they will put a stamp on your passport.

Your case is under investigation for marriage fraud. Clearly you divorced soon after you got your conditional green card, which is a fraud indicator.

Hi, federale86. Couldn't see your reply earlier (for some reason I didn't get notification that you replied). I'm confused because I don't understand why they think that our marriage is fraud. Also, I'm not sure what you are talking about in regards of divorce. We are married, living together and have a lot of joint documents (like leases, joint bank accounts, car on both of our names and stuff).

Hi, Immigration help. Thanks for reply. Currently, it is almost a year and I didn't get any updates on my case. If I wont get anything new in the next 2 weeks, should I start calling USCIS customer care and ask them why it takes them so long?
