  • How does marrying an immigrant affect me?

Hi - I'm considering marrying an immigrant so he can obtain his visa. We've been very good friends for about 3 years, so I trust him completely. I'm 26 years old and own a house. We'll be married, but I still want to retain control of my property and receive the customary tax breaks that would come along with it. How will this marriage affect this?
Is there anyone out there who married an immigrant and was negatively affected financially (not including marriage to untrustworthy individuals)?

Thanks for your help. Just want to help my friend out, without messing with my own life too much.

      Hi Herbie,

What you are considering is illegal.

Title 8, United States Code, Section 1325, states that any
individual who knowingly enters into a marriage contract for
the purpose of evading any provision of the immigration laws
shall be imprisoned for not more than five years, or fined not
      more than $250,000, or both.
Title 18, United States Code, Section 1001, states that
whoever willfully and knowingly falsifies a material fact,
makes a false statement or makes use of a false document will
be fined up to $10,000, imprisoned for up to five years, or both.

And it could turn out to be a big mess.
One scenario: you fall in love with somebody else, but cannot be with you true love, because you are married and have stay married for years?
