Processing times: Vermont vs. State Dept

As a background, Vermont Service Center is currently processing I130 applicatrions in the Family 1st preference category that were filed on or before January 4 1999 (https://egov.immigration.gov/graphic...sp?textFlag=N#). However, based on the State Departments visa bullitin, the priority date for the family 1st preference category is Oct 1, 2000 (http://travel.state.gov/visa_bulletin.html). This means that those people in the Family 1st preference category who had i130 petitions filed on their behalf on January 4 1999 would have had a visa number available to them approximately 1 year and 10 months before Vermont Service Center finally ajudicated (approved/denied) the I130 petition.

Does anyone out there have the experience where a visa number was available to them if Vermont Service Center would only hurry up and ajudicate the petitio? What did you do? Would writing a letter to VSC help?

I don't think that writing a letter will speed anything up. The USCIS (former INS) just ignores them and works on it's own merit (painfully slow).

I would assume that having the State Department's priority date ahead of the USCIS' processing date would make a visa number immediately available because priority date of those filed I-130s already reached.

Sometimes what happens is that when the USCIS gets it's act together and starts adjudicating a lot of I-130s and NVC (State Department) gets flooded with a lot of approved I-130s the priority date gets reset backwards.

We are in the same situation my son is on 1st preference petition filed June 2000 to Vermont, Depertment of state is on October 1. On immigrationlinks.com the guy shared his expirience and told not to pay attention to Vermont posting since his petition was Filed on Feb 2000 and he got an approval notice from Vermont On December 2003.which means that in December 2003 they were on Feb 2000. Lawyers also say that InS usually catches up with the Department of State. When was petition filed?
