What is the maximum validity of a re-entry permit? If once coming near to is expiration date, can it be renewed, while the person is still out side the US?

max is 2 years, and it can NOT be renewed. One can only apply for a new one from inside the USA. A second one may or may not be issued for 2 years, depending on how much time has PR spent outside the USA in total.
