  • How does one get resident alien status to buy a home?

Some of my potential clients want to buy a home and improve their quality of life but can not get descent financing because they don't have a valid social security. They do have a Taxpayer id# to file and pay their taxes like every USC here. They work for companies that have given them an unissued SS# that is reported on their W-2 and this appears fraudelent on their credit report denying them for the loan or requesting a huge down payment. They can however get a loan like a USC if they were a nonpermanent or permanent resident alien status. What are the guidelines/requirements for applying to get this status and how long does it take to get the social security number. Don't really care how long it takes for the green card they just need the social security number.

It sounds like they entered the United States illegaly. If that is the case, than there is nothing they can do to obtain permanent resident status without leaving the country, and there is definately no way that they can get a social security number. If they leave the country, they will trigger the 10 year bar, which means that they will not be able to return to US soil for a minimum of 10 years. If they have an immediate relative who is a US citizen over 21 years old, they may be able to obtain a greencard, but the process will take many years. They cannot obtain a social security number until they have the legal right to work in the United States. There is pending legislation which might offer them relief if it passes. There are a variety of opinions on what the chances of any of the propositions passing are.
      Have a nice day
