Dual PR

Hello,

I have a US greencard and currently i work/live in the US. Before intiating the US greencard process i also applied for Canadian PR and i've just got approved. To formally accept the canadian PR i got to enter canada before end of May 2005. The plan is to go for a few days and come back after completing the formalities.

The question is:-
1. What is the impact to my US-GC if i accept the canadian PR. the idea is to accept the canadian PR and make a decision in a couple of years if i really want to move to canada.

2. Would i have any issues coming back to the US ?

It sounds a bit fishy to me too......I mean how on earth did you con the US and canada???

If you are not US Citizen then you will definitely put your US Greencard in jeopardy. The reason for that is your intent to immigrate to Canada while being only resident here in US. I have been in the same situation. I didn't accept the Canadian offer for Residency and so I preserved the US Greencard. If you accept the canadian greencard and land there as a resident, you will loose your right here in America.

There is nothing in US law that prohibits doing it. As long as you maintain strong ties to US, pay taxes as resident, and keep minimal physical presence in the US your status of permanent resident will not be jeopardized. In fact if you apply for reentry permit you can stay outside US for 2 years after approval, and it doesn't matter where - in Canada or elsewhere in the world.

There is nothing con about. I simply applied both and infact my I-155 was stamped on my pasport when i send my pasport for canadian visa stamping.
