    HI ,
I am International student on F1 and I am graduating this summer 2008. I have applied for OPT on july7th and my opt start date is oct 1st. how long can i stay in the country?
What can i do if my opt gets denied.
Is it better to enroll myself in a course.

    Thanks
    Srinath

You can stay here as long as you go to school.

Your OPT must begin within 60 days following your program completion date. So, I am assuming your program completion date was Aug 1st or later? You can also travel outside the U.S. while your EAD is processing. General rule is you have 30 days to leave once school work is completed. I know of no exception of staying longer while EAD is being processed except for travel outside the United States.
