US Citizen- How long can stay out of USA

i am a US Citizen since 2000 and am considering an offer of employment outside of USA for a few years. i understand that i have to include my worldwide income on my US return, but my question is do i need to obtain any special permission from US INS for being out of USA for 2 years or more.

No. US Citizens can remain outside the country for as long as they like without obtaining any permission.

Since you already know you're required to file US taxes while living overseas, you're already more knowledgeable than most!

No permission required, stay out as long as you like and they have to let you back in. The advantages of being a USC.

There are thundreds of U.S. Citizens working out of U.S. for long time. You do not need any permission from any one.
As long as you are a U.S. Citizen...I know many U.S. Citizens are working in Middle-East in Oil companies for long time...

I know someone whose wife was deported and he visits her-he is a US citizen however in his passport it is stamped 6 months so if he is staying longer he has to sign up for extension.

That will be to do with the rules and regulations of the country he's visiting, not a requirement by the US government, circle. While the US allows you to stay out as long as you like, you still need to obtain the correct visas and follow the laws of whatever country you choose to live in or travel to.
