  • Just got a Conditional GreenCard Stamp .....

I just got a Conditional Green Card Stamp in my passport this morning... I have a quick question though because I am getting conflicting informatin...

Does my countdown (of 3 years) towards citizenship beging today or do I have to wait until I get my unconditional green card in two years and then start counting 3 years towards my eligibility for citizenship?

    Thank you for your time!

Assuming that you remain married to, and living with, your U.S. Citizen spouse, you can apply for Citizenship in two years and nine months (three years, less three months) from today's date.

There are residency requirements and other constraints (you can't spend too much time outside of the country, for example), but assuming that they're not an issue, the above information pertains.

thank you!!! I appreciate your help.

I was trying to find this info online but could not. Yes, I understand that I would have to live in the US, stay married, etc. Assuming it all is no concern, I just wanted to confirm when I can start counting....

            Sure, no problem.
The interview was 30 minutes. The office was really nice. She asked us really generic questions: name, birthdates, etc.

She did not ask any questions about our marriage. Just wanted to see our proof of marriage. So I bombarded her with the paperwork: deed, mortgage statements, phone bills, gas bills, bank statements, etc, etc, etc. I made copies for her. She took them, punched them, got her stamp out and put a stamp in my passport.

She said it would take 2 weeks to get the card.

Let me know if you have other questions.
