    hi, i have a quick question, is it ok for me to give an affidavit of support to a friend of mine who's applying for legal status when i'll be getting married in july and petitioning for my girlfriend and her kids?

        Is he petitioning for your girlfriend and her kids, or is it you who petitioniing for your girlfriend and her kifds?

        First of all, You can't petition for a girlfriend. She would have to be either your fiancee or your wife.

        Second, I agree with those guys, there are consequences in signing an affidivit for someone else. That may hurt your chances of sponsoriing someone (i.e. your girldfrind and her kids). If you are making enough money that can support you, the person you are signing for and your girldfriend and her kids, than you might be okay, you have to remember you are responsible for that person for many years or until he/she becomes a U.S. Citizen.

          He is talking about being a joint sponsor I believe; do not do it

            I thought for joint sponsor only relatives can sign.

              Anyone can sign an AOS; does not have to be a relative

                Anybody can by your sponser, a friend or relative.
