My cousin from Ireland wants to come to the USA for a year to get his masters.........can he work to support himself during the year and if yes what restrictions are there?

Yes,he can work,but only for certain amount of hours a week.
But I have never heard of a F1 VISA only being issued for one single year.
But thats another story...maybe J1.
But the amount of hours he can work,which is also ONLY allowed to be on campus,is far from being able to support himself.
All I see,is F1 students working under the table...but thats risky,i assume

Unless your friend is in an exchange program (such as Optional Practical Training Program) between a university in Ireland and a university in the US, it will be extremely difficult to complete a master's degree in a year.
