Yes,he can work,but only for certain amount of hours a week.
But I have never heard of a F1 VISA only being issued for one single year.
But thats another story...maybe J1.
But the amount of hours he can work,which is also ONLY allowed to be on campus,is far from being able to support himself.
All I see,is F1 students working under the table...but thats risky,i assumeComment

Unless your friend is in an exchange program (such as Optional Practical Training Program) between a university in Ireland and a university in the US, it will be extremely difficult to complete a master's degree in a year. Thanks for the info. It is possible to take a masters in a year over in ireland and the UK so I presume he assumed he could do the same over here.Comment

With F1 visa, your cousin is allowed to work only at school. Your cousin is not allowed to work outside the school.Comment
