  • Who is .... Sheriff Joe????

Joseph M. "Joe" Arpaio is the elected Sheriff of Maricopa County in the U.S. state of Arizona. Arpaio is known as "America's Toughest Sheriff." He is well known for his outspoken stance against illegal immigration. Arpaio has become a flashpoint for controversy surrounding Arizona's anti-illegal immigration act.

Arpaio has become controversial for aggressive publicity-seeking, retaliation against political enemies, abuse of power, civil rights violations, and financial mismanagement.

Arpaio set-up a "Tent City" as an extension of the Maricopa County Jail. The "Tent City" is located in a yard next to a more permanent structure containing toilets, showers, and an area for meals. He has described the "Tent City" as a concentration camp and it has become notable particularly because of Phoenix's extreme temperatures.

Inmates at "Tent City" are famously forced to wear pink underwear and are served spoiled food and their meals are limited to twice daily. Arpaio has also banned inmates from possessing "sexually explicit material" including ******* magazine.

During the summer of 2003, when outside temperatures exceeded 110 °F (43 °C), Arpaio said to complaining inmates, "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and the soldiers are living in tents, have to wear full body armor, and they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your mouths."

Tent City is criticized by groups contending that there are violations of human and constitutional rights. Those critical of Arpaio also point out that the vast majority of inmates within Tent City have not been convicted; rather, they are merely awaiting trial. Arpaio's claim that these inmates committed crimes, they argue, reflects Arpaio's contempt for the American Constitution and the explicit right it grants to a "presumption of innocence."

Arpaio is currently the subject of FBI, United States Department of Justice, and Federal Grand Jury investigations for civil rights violations and abuse of power, and is the defendant in a federal class-action suit for racial profiling

      The real Sheriff Joe.

A man who served his country in the military and get this. A son of an immigrant family. The haters are those opposed to law, order, and the brave who take up the challenge of enforcing it.

Joseph M. "Joe" Arpaio (born June 14, 1932) is the elected Sheriff of Maricopa County in the U.S. state of Arizona. First voted into office in 1992 Arpaio is responsible for law enforcement in Maricopa County. This includes management of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, county jail, courtroom security, prisoner transport, service of warrants, and service of process. Arpaio promotes himself as "America's Toughest Sheriff."[1][2] He is well known for his outspoken stance against illegal immigration.[3] Arpaio has become a flashpoint for controversy surrounding Arizona's SB1070 anti-illegal immigration act.[4]

Arpaio is currently the subject of FBI,[5] United States Department of Justice,[6] and Federal Grand Jury[7] investigations for civil rights violations and abuse of power, and is the defendant in a federal class-action suit for racial profiling.[8]

Arpaio has become controversial for aggressive publicity-seeking,[9] retaliation against political enemies,[10] abuse of power,[11] civil rights violations,[12] and financial mismanagement.[13]

Arpaio was born in Springfield, Massachusetts to Italian-American[16] parents. Arpaio's mother died while giving birth to him, and Arpaio was raised by his father, a grocery store owner. Arpaio completed high school and worked in his father's business until age 18 when he enlisted in the United States Army.[17] Arpaio served in the Army from 1950 to 1954 in the Medical Detachment Division and was stationed in France for part of the time as a military policeman.[18]

Following his discharge in 1954, Arpaio moved to Washington, D.C. and became a police officer, moving in 1957 to Las Vegas, Nevada. He served as a police officer in Las Vegas for six months before being appointed as a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, which later became part of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).[19] During his 25-year tenure with the DEA, he was stationed in Argentina, Turkey and Mexico, and advanced through the ranks to the position of head of the DEA's Arizona branch.[20]

In 1992, Arpaio successfully campaigned for the office of Maricopa County Sheriff. The voters of Maricopa County re-elected him in 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008.[21]

Arpaio married his current wife Ava in 1958. Together they have two children and four grandchildren.[22] They currently reside in Fountain Hills, Arizona.[23]

In 2001, Arpaio was the first sheriff to require all inmates aged 18 and over to register for the Selective Service System. Registration is required by federal law for all U.S. males between 18 and 26 years of age, as well as for resident aliens of the same age, regardless of their immigration status. Since 2001, a total of 28,000 inmates (including 9,000 aliens) have registered for Selective Service.[42][43]

The Sheriff also started the "Have a Heart" program in which inmates may volunteer to be organ donors.[43]

Ah yes, the Italian Cowboy, who at a time when America lectures the world on human rights, dispatches posses to round up non citizens. Keep in mind that entering the US illegally is not a felony, not even a misdemeanor, but only an infraction.

For this infraction people are taken into custody, and held without bail, without the right to see a Judge, for an unlimited length of time, in sub-human conditions. While our man Joseppie brags about spending $1.05 per day to feed the guard dogs, and .45 cents per day to keep the sub human people alive. Didn’t Hitler start out like this? Would Joseppie start executing non citizens if he could get away with it… of course he would, and he’d brag about it.

I wonder how this looks to the rest of the world, as we lecture them on human rights?

Compared to how illegal aliens are treated in other countries, I think one would pick Sheriff Joe over the alternatives if given a choice.

Any infraction is cause for arrest. Arrest is the process of restricting or removing one's freedom. You can be arrested for a minor traffic violation.

The reason you're usually not is it's presumed the individual will show up in court or otherwise accept responsibility for their crime. They usually do.

In this venue that isn't the case. Catch and release was tried and failed miserably due to those apprehended snubbing their noses at the order to appear. So, the only option available to keep order was to catch but not release until adjudicated.

BTW, Sheriff Joe applies the same level of care to all those in his custody, citizens and otherwise. No one is being singled out. Besides, if they're in the country, chances are they are working. If they are working then they must have stolen or otherwise falsified documents in order to do so. That is a felony.

Problem is, he is rounding up Citizens too, as long as they "look" illegal (read: doesn't look like Arpaio himself).
It is ILLEGAL under US law to mistreat, apprehend or in any way mistreat people based on their mere appearance.

ICE conducts months of investigations and gathers irrefutable evidence of cause to search or cause to apprehend.

In case of Joe, he locks people up just because they LOOK like they are illegals ( i posted in this site testimonies of US Citizens locked by Joe because he didn't believe they were citizens and when they did show their USC papers accused them of forgery).

            <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">

It is Civil violation and as such there are plenty of means and methods to address it.
First, why borders aren't protected and people are allowed to come here without inspection?
Second, you don't go arresting librarians and US Citizens on the streets ,who "look like Illegal Aliens", in the name of combating Illegal Immigration.

To illegally detain or mistreat people just because of their appearance is even greater violation of public law than what he is allegedly setting out to prevent.

This is not entirely accurate picture. He doesn't hold them indefinitely, nor does he have a right to do so. He calls ICE to pick them up. If ICE isn't interested he has no choice but to let them go. And if ICE picks up anyone, no one goes without a bond hearing and seeing a Judge (in case of repeat offenders or those whom are risk of flight , the bond hearing may be denied).

The problem is: he picks on people just because the way they LOOK. There is nothing you have to do in order to be picked up by Arpaio's deputies, all you need is to LOOK like an Illegal Alien (go figure what that means).

If people in the rest of the world some day decide to go back to times of Iliad and throw illegal people from the city walls, will it give anyone a good reason to make an argument that it is OK to just smash their arms and legs with the hammer, since it's a lot better than throwing them off from the wall?
What kind of argument is this?

Why doesn't Arpaio go to Border patrol and straighten it up with those responsible for releasing illegals at the border?
BTW, majority of those he catches don't seem to be 'catch and release' folks, but many are Mexicans (who never were subject to release if caught at border) and some are actually US Citizens.

Why scapegoat people who have nothing to do with the crime, just because they LOOK like those who commit similar offenses? How is it legal to do so?

You must have missed the reports of repeated deaths of US Citizens in his custody , some were killed under the heat, others in diabetes related coma (as he wouldn't believe them to be sick, and subsequently denied medical attention) and so on.

The biggest irony, of course, is that the crime rate in his county ( per FBI report) have risen dramatically since 2004 under - Joe's watch.
So, what is he doing and why is he doing what he does if the effect of his actions are opposite of what he claims to be doing it for?

                <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">

Of course no one is being singled out. Just search for some US Citizens whom he put in detention because he taught them to be illegals even after they produced documentary evidence of being born or being legally in US (Joe simply accused them of forgery and refused to believe , so it took intervention of ICE to take custody of and release some of those people).

Two, just because someone is in country illegally doesn't mean they stole someone else's identity. Identity theft is committed by people of all races, nationalities, statuses and creeds. If anyone does it then this problem should be addressed on its' own merit. You don't go accusing all of the Citizens of Harlem or Bronx of being criminals and use it as pretext to put them all in jail because some of them are violent offenders or are felons.

Why anything criminal done by any illegal should by default and automatically be applied to all others who share nothing but the same immigration status with that of the offender?

You don't accuse all the citizens but you put your resources where most of the problem is. Would you need the same police presence in Beverly Hills as in Harlem? I doubt it. That is why things are the way they are. Just as is it's far more likely an illegals did steal a USC's identity than an arbitrary citizen. By the actions done, that is exactly what they are doing.

As for one person being cuffed at McDonalds. Perhaps she should blame the vast numbers of illegals who make raids a necessity in the first place. No crime, no raids. It's that simple.

The people most opposed to law enforcement's efforts to deter crime are often the ones committing the crime.

In the absence of any credible evidence supporting wrongful profiling, those opposed Sheriff Joe support criminals.
