I'm not some progressive nutjob, as you well know, but this question raises the whole issue in some very simplistic kida way, don't you think?

Some Dems believe no war is ever worth the sacrifice, and I will never agree with that position, specially when the security of the country is directly compromised, but this war in Iraq stopped being about security a long time ago. I wish I could tell you what it's about but I don't have a clue, and I don't believe American soldiers should die for some unknown cause.

Soldiers sign up for the military to protect the United States, either here or abroad, to fight a noble cause, not to pursue some political objective or the agenda of the Republicans or the Democrats. A soldier's life is way more important than any election or political ambition!

The U.S. Military is not some third world militia composed of mercenaries and guns for hire. Pride, principle and honor are actually an integral part of every single soldier who wears the American flag, and that's something to be proud of.

I do respect and support the military. I have many military friends and family in the USMC, and it's that respect that makes me also value their lives as precious and significant.

They are not the walmart greeter. The military functions as a means of force. Everyone who joined knew that. Unlike most countries they joined of their own free will. Their job is not to question their superiors or the policy. It functions as a means to that political end.

For anyone who does not support our military efforts you also do not support the soldier or his mission. You disrespect their choices in life and the freedoms that allowed that choice to begin with. And most of all you spit on the freedoms that you have the soldier is fighting for. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

        Davdah

this is the b ull c rap that GWB jr tried to sell the american people. "If you dont support your troops , you are un-american" even if you dont agree with the war" .

GWB used psychology into making you feel guilty about being unpatriotic. You and millions of other fell 4that hook , line and sinker.

If one does not support the war, then that is the end of it period.

          Not definitely to protect Iraq!
          and why us???

As their fellow american, it is painful
to see your own die for some political agenda!

We have our own borders, sea port, airports,to protect.

          Leave Iraq alone!

I support our troops 100% and have the utmost respect for them. More often than not, I have respected and supported the military endeavors with which this country has been involved. However, I can no longer support a war without end. We continue to lose American lives in Iraq for what purpose? We will never, ever resolve the turmoil which exists between the various religious sectors in Iraq. Why continue to spend money and spill blood over a war that we cannot win? Didn't we learn something from Vietnam?

              BTW Davdah

This is not a question for Dems as you state or lefties.

The people that feel this way about the war are common to both sides of the fence. It is an individual and personal opinion.. not a group mentality.

The Brainwashing of these young troops into thinking that what they are doing is righteous is disgusting. Just for their cause. The ones doing it are abominable. "Make the lie real" mentality. Tell the lie enough times and you will believe it yourself. Very sad

I agree with what the others have written Davdah. I myself have nothing but respect and admiration for military forces, US or otherwise. In UK I worked about as close as you can be with the military whilst not signing on the dotted line to be in it.

Iraq has become a joke. It never was about National Security. Al Queda were not in Iraq until the US invaded. We created our own war there. Now we are trying to police a civil war which will be impossible to win. Finally, Bush and Co are realizing we can't stay there forever. The Iraqi's themselves don't want the US forces there anymore. That's pretty obvious. So what are we doing there? How do you define victory in a civil war?

As Proudie said, we haven't learn't anything from past mistakes. If you look into how the Korean war got started, there are some similarities with Iraq, namely we backed the wrong guy.
"What you see in the photograph isn't what you saw at the time. The real skill of photography is organized visual lying."

Democrats rejoice and celebrate the death and injury of American Servicemen; always have, always will. They hide this fact in public gatherings for show such as the DNC. However, we all know, inside every liberal, is a hatred of America and delight in seeing harm come to it. Don't ask Dems how they feel about the deaths of American servicemen, we all know that they are gleeful when they die.

The ones spreading undermining propaganda to sway people's opinion against our purpose. Those that believe it are only helping the enemy. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Those were also GWB words delivered when americans started prostesting the war. Then the protests stopped because they were duped into thinking that they were not patriots.

Of course you are correct that soldiers know the deal when they sign up. It is s roll of the dice. What I speak of is the brainwashing that is done to convince them that they are doing the right thing. I agree that the military is an occasional mercenary job. These men and women have taken a job that will require them at time to be a mercenary for this country and maybe for others. (as in the case of Kuwait and others that pay us to be their military.)

This war is without purpose as we know it, other than personal and political agenda as we have seen it.

You are a very smart guy, yet you allow this ugly talk about muslims and arabs to distort your reasoning. This is the type of brainwashing that the troops get. the mentality that arab = muslim and that muslim=terrorist and that therefore arab=terrorist.

At last I checked, there were not any provisions that the President of this country could or could not be a particular religion. You have allowed the propaganda and movement to fuel the hatred to a point that you cannot even see reason or logic here Davdah. You are way too smart for that. We have been over this all before in fact finding discussions on this board, yet you keep reverting back at some point to these racist/religious statments in regards to some of these issues. I am a little bit disappointed, SOM and A9/Wusc I can understand because they are troublemakers on a mission. But you Davdah, you are a smart and basically reasonable person when evidence is presented for you to consider.

With all due respect, Davdah, these don't sound like words coming from you. Sound like cop out words to me and you do not normally cop out of anything! The purpose we went into Iraq and the purpose we are still there are 180 degrees apart. I think the American people have every right to know why we are still in Iraq. After all, it is our tax dollars supporting this war now and for many, many years to come (despite when it ends). So, why are we still there? I hope the answer isn't spelled O I L.

What's unpatriotic about being sensible to the loss of American lives? What's unpatriotic about questioning the reason behind the death of thousands of U.S. soldiers?

That has always been the answer when someone dares to say something, not just about the war, but about virtually anything else... You're unpatriotic... But it was Jefferson who said that it's a duty, not just a privilege, to ask questions and get involved...

I, personally, would believe Jefferson and the Founding Fathers over any modern-day politician, specially those who seem to regard the Constitution as some "dam-n piece of paper".

I am by no means a war protester, Davdah. I've always supported our troops. When will (or can) this war end? Will it be when Iraq is successful in establishing and maintaining a democracy (by our definition or theirs)? Will it be when all of the civil wars end? If someone could define what a victory in Iraq would look like, I might be willing to listen.
