  • Help!!!

My friend's daughter had minor surgery. They are temporarily staying with me,
but she does not have any economic resources.
Her husband has h1-visa, but he divorced her, thus loses their insurance and visa status.
    They have few
thousands dollars in hospital bills. I tried to get her some help, but we are afraid that if she can not pay for it, the hospital might do some check-up and notify the immigration. What can she do? She felt so bad that she might endanger me for
    letting them stay with me.

no, they won't notify the immigration, most likely they'll give the case to the collection agency and if your friends still don't pay, the collection agency will sue them.

Your friend can show the hospital that she doesn't have any money and is not legally allowed to work on her visa, and sometimes the hospital will forgive most of the debt. The rest can be paid off in small installments, like $30 a month.

It is highly unlikely that the hosptial bills will cause her to get deported. They might affect her in the future if she ever applies for PR or Citizenship, however.
        Have a nice day

Thanks so much. I really feel for her esp. the daughter, but I can not afford to help her financially. We tried to look for her husband, but we don't even know where to start.
Someone suggests to her to marry a USC, but I think that will put her in more trouble with immigration.
She has a college degree, and I told her maybe....just maybe Pres. Bush's plan for immigration might help her.

          Again, Thanks

The democratic plan S.O.L.V.E is more likely to be helpful (from what I know) - if it gets passed.

Bush's plan, at best, is a VERY temporary solution and leaves a lot of questions in people's minds. In my opinion it was more a gesture of appeasement to Mexico, than a real desire to help immigration problems.
