If you are a lawful permanent resident, you are not eligible to petition to bring your parents to live and work permanently in the United States.
But, once you are a U.S. citizen, provided you are at least 21 years old, you are eligible to petition your parents.

A green card holder can only file alien relative petition (form I-130) for spouse and children. They are subject to an immigrant visa numerical limitation. Spouse and children of LPRs have to wait for a visa number available from the State Department.

Only a USC can file for parents. LPR can file for a citizenship after 3 years if married to a USC or 5 years in all other cases subject to residency requirements. It takes about a year from filing citizenship petition to a swearing ceremony.

hi aman,
as long as i know ....if usc files for parents dates are always current so they dont have to wait for visa number to be available...it depends on country.... if usc goes to home country and does DCF ( direct counselor filing) ...It could be as fast as 4 to 6 months but they have some other requirement like for doing DCF you have to stay in home country for couple of months before you can do it ....before it wasnt like this ...so that makes it harder for USC to file petition for parents or spouse through DCF...if you file here ...it depends upon service center and then everything same like police clearance and FBI inquiry...so approx. it should take about 1 year or more if USC files for parents.... this is just a guess...good luck...Pasha

if at the time of NATURALISATION one of the parents is legally present in the US(say on a business visa ) and the other one is in the home country can a US citizen file separately for both . and can the one whos physically there in the US file for an AOS AND WAIT in the US until he /she gets his GC
