News from AILA National:

While some District Offices indicated that they would no longer issue ADIT (I-551) stamps, AILA Liaison has been advised that USCIS will continue with existing policy allowing issuance of the ADIT (I-551) stamp for permanent residents. We have been told that we can expect formal written confirmation of this within the next few days.


USCIS Ombudsman Prakash Khatri has just advised our Ombudsman Liaison Chair, Maggie Catillaz, that USCIS will NOT be changing its policy on issuance of I-551 stamps--that the agency will continue to issue them

Hopefully this is true.
am waiting for my GC but i am sure it is going to be lost in mail since i just moved to different location.
If so i will have to go back for another stamp next year.
It would be nice if this i551 stamping is back

Thanks everyone for bringing news over the board . I could care less what kinda changes they make... coz too much on my plate right now anyways ...but I am interested in knowing what will be the alternatives for the same .... National security is the most important thing without any doubt but other things are as important as cited reasons for such changes .... And continuing issuance of I 551 stamps doesn't have whatsoever correlation with national security if they wont stop accepting those at borders ... scan able immigrant visa ( in other words I 551 stamp just like other non immigrant visa in passport) sounds secured to me like any other visa that can be checked at port of entry and those don't take too long to make ....all US consulates in other countries worldwide make them in couple of hrs ... and always remember one thing... if they do not think any better option ( in case if they cancel I -551 stamp) ...it will be pain in neck for them to answer extra million questions regarding AP, Re entry, Proof of approval and bla bla bla ... I have feelings if they imply this in practice ...they sure will come up with something better than it is right now....

Conclusion : - don't be excited or panic about any discussion unless you see some solid legal memo or news on USCIS website....

Good advice Pasha. I was very upset about this 551 business, and all for nothing.

I just need to be patient and hope we get our interview soon. I am just glad my husband is not on edge about all this as I am. He is the one who is adjusting and yet I am the one that worries.

Washington, D.C. – Until further notice, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will continue the practice of issuing "ADIT" stamps. An "ADIT" Stamp is added to a passport or an Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) as proof of temporary residency. To alleviate inconvenience to our customers, USCIS continues to aggressively pursue technological improvements to allow the prompt issuing of permanent alien resident cards without the need to issue these temporary stamps.

I am updating you. Hubby received a letter from Mesquite TX last Friday. The welcome letter one receives when approved for GC. Instead of the 6 months to a year the interviewer in Atlanta told us, the letter said 3 weeks. SO it should be comming.

I am glad to hear that your hubby's GC is coming soon.

The only good news we have heard so far is a from a friend of ours. She is also ajd. status through USC husband. She has a receipt date of December 2002 and she just received her fingerprinting notice on Friday. That means to us that they are looking at cases filed in 12/02 way ahead of what the USCIS website indicates, which is June 2002. So, I hope they keep up this pace.
