The president has made it clear that he will not sign an enforcement only bill. The house will have to agree on an amendment that allows legalization and a guest worker, to what degree is what is up for debate. If there is nothing done in this matter, the GOP will lose its control in Washington, and with Dems in control, this bill will pass forsure. So it is only wise for the GOP to pass it now, or else the Dems will pass it when they win majority.
So with the president on Dems side, this bill will be passed this year.

I definitely agree with Sundevil. From what i am reading in the news, the house does not agree with most of the senate bill apart from the border enforcement. Left to the house the current immigration laws are enough and simply needs to be enforced. I doubt there will be any compromise on the issue of legalizing illegals anytime soon.

The Senate bill is but one proposal that the Congress, as a whole, must consider in the Conference Committee. Given that the Senate bill and the House bill are similar only in their enforcement provisions, those are the most likely to go to the President for his signature.
Those awaiting amnesty for illegal aliens are going to have a very, very long wait.

They will not re-write the bill, 600 pages, it will take them forever, and I'm sure that they are as desperate as we are to get a quick result, no matter what the outcome is.
They will be able to make a lot of changes (hopefully good ones) by adding amendments and they will sure use that opportunity.
This is what I think.
