Aguila, sphyrapicus, SAMMY, 4now...TAX Question

Hi everyone...

I have a question for you guys and everyone that know answer to this one... I know aguila was going to do kaplan classes ...

My friend who came last year is doing KAPLAN classes for a year and paid 6000 $ ... can he claim this as tution fees in tax return ? They r not sure if they can...thanks and have a great day...Pasha

If its classes in their online university program that lead to a degree, I failed to see how it differs from tuition of regular university, Pasha.
If its classes to prepare for MCAT, etc, I doubt it.

If KAPLAN classes lead to a degree you can take Life Long education credit, which is a 20% dollar for dollar deduction.
If you paid $6000 in tuition fees, then you can reduce your tax liability by $1200 (20% of 6000). Remember, this is dollar for dollar deduction! That's up to $1200 back in your pocket.

I am sorry I do not know the answer. At the end I did not take KAPLAN classes to prepare for the LSAT. I prepared for it on my own with the kaplan books and other practice tests book.

Thanks a lot marmaduk, rga and aguila... I appreciate ur help... this course doesn't lead him to any degree...he is taking it for exam preparation USMLE..so I guess he doesn't qualify for the tax return...once again thanks a lot...Pasha
