Hi everybody ....First of all i wanted to say thank you guys for being kind enough and tell eveyone else what to do or trying to guide people like us in right directions regarding our status here in the US. i APPRECIATE you all caring .
    Here's my problem or question....
I overstayed my visa big time well actually because i was young back then (18) when i came in the country now im 26 and i now got married to my native american girlfriend and she wants to help me adjust my status i came on a b2(tourist)visa.
I got all the paper work ready but here's the thing i have lost my original passport but i got a new one but just that it's not that one i came here with with the visa in it but this one is a legal passport from my country my dad sent it to me ..Is it still okay can i adjust my status even though i lost my visa ? i have my original I94 as proof of visa or legal entry into the us . I have never worked not even under the table because my uncle was taking care of me now i want to be on my own i dont have a social security number ....Where do i start ? How long will it take before i get a work permit? Im in seattle washington and im african from ivory coast ....... Thank you all

      I really don't know.
Simon is right, it's a good thing you still have your I94. But beyond that, I really don't know what is going to happen next or what to tell you. You may just want to go down to the INS office and see what they say.

Since you don't have your origional passport, you must go to your local ICE office to verify that you were admitted. They can check the computer records of admissions.

I might warn against going to an ICE office, seeing as you are technically on illegal status. I'd advise getting a lawyer in this situation. I wouldn't want to leave any of this to chance.
