That shouldnt be the problem, since they cant check at the POE how u been away, cos EU passports are not being stamped when u enter your home country.
But since the GC document expired anyway, it doesnt matter.

The real problem is that the inspector when you try to re-enter the country will probably look at your documents, realize you haven't been here in several years, and say you've abandoned your permanent residency. It's called that for a reason--you're supposed to live here, or intend to live here permanently. You may be asked for proof that you have ties here. Your kids would certainly be some, but also property, bank accounts, have you filed tax returns, etc. If immigration decides not to let you enter, you might well be on a plane back. Check with the consul. And, of course, see if you can get advice from a lawyer well versed in U.S. immigration law (I'm not a lawyer.) Or, do you have skills that would get you an employment visa of some sort?

At a guess, you will be turned away if you present your green card. Save yourself the money, and check with the U.S. embassy or consul about getting a visitor's visa. You may have to wait until your oldest is old enough and financially able to sponsor you for permanent residency--assuming he's a U.S. citizen.

Hi all,
i am a former green card holder that expired in 2003, i left country 1999 because of my ex husband, now six years gone by and i want to reenter. Reason i have 4 children ( 3 minor one 19 ) that i havent seen. Plus my ex makes it hard for me to speak or have any contact to them.
I loved the states and i do want to be with my kids ... how do i go about it just fly over with expired card or go to embassy here . Since i am divorced and my children not able to sponsor me what do i have to do. ???
