He'll probably be okay if he was able to get his GC renewed recently. Was his crime a misdemeanor? If so, they are normally overlooked after a certain period of time has passed without having any other run-ins with the law. If he's kept his record clean for the past five or so years with no problems, he probably won't waste the money going for citizenship.

Assuming they had mentioned the misdemeanor on the renewal 2yrs ago, it likely wasn't a CIMT crime in which case all should be good. If it wasn't mentioned that could be a problem, even if it wasn't a CIMT crime.

What was the offense? Normally if it was something minor and it happened over 5 years ago, it won't be an issue. Like Brittie said, if the offense was a CIMT, there could be a problem with citizenship.

Very likely will result in a denial and removal.

Hi Mary. It depends what it was for. If it were a CIMT crime then it could be a problem otherwise it's unlikely to be factor. Either way it must be declared on the N-400 form.
