  • Iran and Pakistan to deport all 3.4 million illegal Afghan immigrants by 2009

Examples of mercy and brotherhood within the Muslim world...

Pakistan announced that all 2.4 million Afghans must return home by 2009. Since late April 2007, the Iranian government has forcibly deported back to Afghanistan nearly 200,000 registered and unregistered Afghans living and working in Iran. Iran says it will send 1 million by next March. Iran and Pakistan see Afghans as economic migrants.

The Pakistan government had already asked the 'unregistered' refugees, declared as 'illegal immigrants', to return to their country under the UNHCR's voluntary repatriation programme, the Minister said, adding $ 15 million has so far been spent in this regard.

"The property and documents of all illegal Afghan immigrants would soon be confiscated as being foreigners they have no right to buy land in Pakistan," he said.
