  • Immigration Form Monopoly

Texas just came down hard on an immigration consultant who was practicing law without a license.

They make it sound as though the motivation for the crackdown was to protect the poor unwitting clients from incompetance. If so then why are they not going after incompetent LAWYERS who say practice in immigration?

Sounds to me like the motivation was to protect the "monopoly". You don't need a Real Estate lawyer to help you with a mortgage. You don't need a tax lawyer to help you with your taxes. You don't need a probate lawyer to help you with your estate. Why then do you HAVE TO GET an immigration lawyer to help you with a green card??

No, you don't need a lawyer and if you don't use one then you assume the liability. If a licensed professional buggers your case, a client may have some form of redress through malfeasance or malpractice.

Maybe this sort of immigration "shop" doesn't carry any.
The above is simply an opinion. Your mileage may vary. For immigration issues, please consult an immigration attorney.

Yeah, maybe the lawyer will be reprimanded by the bar. Please....
