query about help to unemployed GC holder

Hi I entered the U.S. late june 2010 through lottory green card and got my GC and

SSN, but during last 5 months couldnt get a job and am unemployed w/o any

revenue. I am highly experienced engineer but employers dont give me a job

because my previous jobs and education background have been in my home

country.(I hve applied more than 500 applications for tech and nontech jobs but no

luck) WHAT KIND OF HELP I CAN GET? EXEPTION FROM TAX, FOOD

STAMP, RENT, INSURANCE, AFFORDABLE HOUSING,...

Echoing Proudie here. Good luck in your job hunt. It's always tough for a new immigrant with no US work history to use. As for help, you're SoL with the Federal Government. You have to have have held a GC for 5 years before qualifying for any assistance. Your local State government might be able to help although a lot of them won't. Some may bend the rules a bit. I believe CA will do that. If you live in say OK, forget it.

As a single male you are pretty much out of luck, you could look to charities, food banks etc.

Unfortunately there are many many people looking for work and your competitors will have the advantage of contacts and US work history.
