I came here on a student visa but am out of school for a while now and am out of status. Fortunately, when i first applied for a social security #, i was issued a valid one and used it to apply for work. I've been working for the past 8 1/2 years and just recently been asked to join the management position.

Are there any options for me to change my status, cause i know the background check for the job will be extensive. And asking for corporate sponsorship is out of the question cause i've talked to my boss about it.

    Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately you cannot change status once you're out of status. At this point in time your only option for legalization will be through marriage to a U.S. citizen.

leave it to the greedy immigration attorney to suggest 'marriage' in order to get a green card.....of course, the phrase "good faith" marriage is lost behind the billable hour receipts....
