  • ***ON H1-B - CAN I BRING MY PARENTS OVER FOR VISIT?

    Hi,

I have an h1-b. Can i bring my parents over for a quick visit? If so, what type of paperwork should I send to my perents for them to take it to the US Embassy?

Also, does anyone know where I can find a sample of an 'invitation' that my parents have to take with them to the embassy...

    Thanks!!!!

Can you bring them... No. Can they get a tourist visa... possibly. It depends on their country and their situation. If your parents can be considered upper class, then they have a good chance of getting a visa. Otherwise, they will likely be denied. Generally, if the $100 application fee seems like a lot of money to you, you don't get a visa. Read about 214(b) on either the USCIS or US State Department web site.

        Old man,

What does your status have to do with their ability to get a visa? When you go the embassy, you just have to prove that they will have the funds to pay for the trip...

If the embassy personel sees that the applicants have relatives in the US, and the applicants is of prime working age (20-30s, good fit, etc), they might be concerned that these people will enter USA and then stay and work illegaly. Likewise, if they're of upperclass status and have lots of assets in the home country, they'll unlikely to leave that behind and stay illegaly in the US. Its all depend on how the embassy personel view your parent's case.

Yes. you can bring you parents, they will come as visitor. You need to file support letter (Notorized)to get a visa. you might need their medical insurence too.
Its a discussion, not a legal advise..

You can "invite" your parents, and you can swear an affidavit to support your parents, but they must qualify on their own for a visitors visa. The culture at each consualte abroad on who will qualify can vary greatly, sometimes even within the same country. But the letter of the law is that they must prove a likelihood that they will return to their home country. Usually it is a matter of money and status. BTW- no matter how much money you have, they need to prove they have enough of their own money. Also- they may not be any more likely to be granted now that you are hare than they were before you were here. Often consulates see relatives in the U.S. as another factor for them to overstay- *especially* if one day you might be able to petition for them (I know it is a long time from now...) Good luck, I would like to here the details of how it goes.
