From where is the money going to come from to insure a 1/3 of the workforce who didn't have it? Will it be deducted from the employee's paycheck? Or, will the employer be hit with another tax? It doesn't matter from which end. The result is the same.

At least we have some sort of sanity running the government at this point. They need to look at the real root cause of health care expense instead of trying to force mandates on people to support this stupid public option. We are not a socialist country. There are just as many reasons why a legal immigrant can't afford hefty medical insurance costs as there are why a USC couldn't afford them.

Lets look at a legal immigrant married to a USC who has 2 kids. She's a SAHM, not working, so she and her children are reliant on the medical insurance provided by her husband's employment. His hours have been cut and he's forced to change employment. Now, he has to sign up for the public option or face hefty fines and/or jail time. His wife isn't eligible and between the mortgage, the kids, the cost of living and the fact they were only just making ends meet before, private insurance for his wife isn't something they can afford.

What will they do when something happens to her? Yep. They'll go to the ER.

Lets not forget that legal immigrants will not be eligible for 5 years under the current plan and with the current public option in place, it could create major problems.

Not only will the undocumented continue to jam up the country's ER services, the documented will be forced to as well.

They are at least sparing the smaller companies, for now. However, this bill isn't set in concrete yet. There are some more steps to go before it can pass into law. Between now and then, they'll figure out how to put the s.crews to the smaller companies too.

I don't believe there are any current laws that require employers to offer health insurance. The one passed by the House will mandate employers with a payroll over $500,000/annually provide health insurance. This law will also mandate everyone to carry health insurance, whether or not you want it. If you opt not to purchase health insurance, you will pay a fine (and so will the employers who are supposed to offer health insurance and don't). The fines are supposed to fund the public option after a period of time.

House pases health care reform bill

The House of Representatives on Saturday night passed a sweeping health care bill by a vote of 220-215.

Earlier, the House passed an amendment to pending health care legislation that prohibits federal funds for abortion services in the public option and in the insurance "exchange" the bill would create.

The vote passed 240-194.

A second amendment considered by the House, introduced by Minority Leader John Boehner, which would have substituted several sections of the health care bill dealing with insurance, did not pass. Legislators voted against the amendment 258-176.
