Hi! I have a cleaning lady that comes to the house once every 2 weeks and does occasional babysitting. She is from Mexico as is her husband. They are illegal and worked in this country for 6 years to save the money to get her kids here (also illegal but enrolled in CA public schools, receiving MediCal). SHe was apart from her kids for 6 years! I can barely leave my 18 month old for the afternoon...
She is wonderful, hardworking and in general a really great person. My husband and I would like to help her out but I am afraid that because she is here illegally there is not much we can do -- there doesn't seem to be a way to sponsor her (even if we hired her full time) without putting her at risk of deporation -- and her kids too. She is very fearful as you can imagine.
We also would like to get her a ITIN because even though it is only a couple of times a month, we feel weird paying her "under the table".
Finally, it seems that there will be no upward mobility at all in her family if they all remain ilegal. Her eldest daughter, a high school graduate, is a cleaning lady just like her mom.
My husband is the son of immigrants who came here with NOTHING (although his dad was at least on a student visa and immigrated legally) and he has really reaped the benefits of living in this country, and we would just like to make the same opportunity available to these kids. We are sending the 2 youngest to summer camp but a lot of great camps would not take undocumented kids.
HELP! I don't even know where to begin but I would really like to help this family without putting them in danger of deportation!
Any advice is appreciated.
